GeometryCode bulletin for February 2013

Thursday, 28 February 2013 by Bruce Rawles

(1) News, Events, Interviews, Workshops, Classes, Exhibits, Products, Articles, Tutorials

Keith Critchlow : Fibonacci Spiral and Pentagram

(2) Websites, Books, Videos, Imagery, Music and Quotes

A handful of new websites and pages of interest to sacred geometry enthusiasts:

  • An excellent Pinterest page by John Lloyd with hundreds of interesting geometric images. The top image for this bulletin – a study of Fibonacci approximations to a logarithmic spiral using 20 equal divisions of a circle, by Keith Critchlow – is from John’s Pinterest page.
  • Polygonal Art in Web Design offers numerous examples of polygons in the art of the web. Speaking of web design, we highly recommend Intent Design Studio – that would be us! :-) for WordPress web design (using customized versions of the professional, superbly crafted StudioPress Genesis themes) and geometric logos and illustrations.
  • Disclose.tv offers a video “Pythagoras, Sacred Geometry and the Holographic Universe” asking questions about ancient origins of Pythagoras’ ideas and more; complete with a bit of Donald Duck in Mathemagic Land as well as our Egypt tour guide (20 years ago last November!), Gregg Braden who demonstrates Hans Jenny’s Cymatics. If you haven’t already seen them, check out these higher resolution Cymatic images made possible by the Cymascope
  • Samuel Kiwasz sells lovely sacred geometric pendants as well as violet glass bottles. I had the pleasure of meeting Samuel at a sound healing conference where I gave a sacred geometry presentation in 2008.
  • The recently updated Martineau Solar System page now has a new gallery/slideshow at the top of the page. You can now click on thumbnails for a larger view, or a large image for the next slide in slideshow mode. It’s amazing how accurate these simple geometric models are in depicting the proportions of the average orbital distances of the planets in our solar system.

Daily post updates option now available

I recently added a way to quickly and easily subscribe to automated post updates to the GeometryCode.com website. Just enter your email below where it says the “Get GeometryCode.com post updates by email” on the upper right hand corner of any page, and click the “Subscribe” button. You’ll automatically get an email containing any new posts to GeometryCode.com made the previous day. Of course, if you prefer just getting one email a month, the bulletin you’re reading now (if you’re reading this in your email program) will still continue to provide that service.

Recent reviews of the book: The Geometry Code

Thanks to Susan Dugan, Mike Lemieux, and Marianne O’Sheeran for their recent, kind reviews of The Geometry Code: Universal Symbolic Mirrors of Natural Laws Within Us; Friendly Reminders of Inclusion to Forgive the Dreamer of Separation. Yet another fellow author, Jonathan Joshua, wrote the first review – Thanks, Jonathan! – last year. Huge thanks also to Gary Renard, Cindy-Lora Renard and Roberta Grace for adding The Geometry Code book (with a Foreward by Gary) to the “Gary recommends” book list on Gary’s website.
The Kindle version of the book became available last September. Many thanks to all who have encouraged me to complete it, and all your support … so very appreciated! :-) BTW, if you prefer a ‘treeware’ (paperback) version, you can order it here. Here are abundant details about the book.
BTW, even if you don’t have a Kindle, there are lots of other platforms you can read the Kindle version (or any Kindle book) on, including smartphones such as iPhone and iTouch, Android, Windows Phone 7, Blackberry, Windows and Macintosh computers, and tablets like iPad and Android tablet. Enjoy! :-)

Recent Radio/Webcast Interviews/Podcasts/Videos

I’ve been updating the Events page with upcoming, ongoing, and past radio and internet interviews, presentations, and more.
Among the recent past interviews I’ve participated in (with free audio archives online that you can listen to) are:

  • Your Soul Guidance show interview by Saskia Roell. Click here to listen to a replay of the interview.
  • A second interview by Wendy Joy on her Bringing the Light Internet Talk Radio show.
  • Awakening in Austin Internet Talk Radio show; interview by Sara Pencil Blumenfeld, Wed., 18 July 2012 9-9:30 AM MDT on Blog Talk Radio
  • Kenneth Bok of ACIMexplained.com recorded a fun interview with me in video split-screen format on 17Jul2012
  • Awakening to Conscious Co-Creation: interview by Peter Tongue
  • New Realities: internet/radio interview by Alan Steinfeld

… and many more workshops, presentations, exhibits and more on the Events page.
I always enjoy talking about the non-dual Metaphysics, Psychology, Symbolism, Philosophy and more contained within the book “The Geometry Code: Universal Symbolic Mirrors of Natural Laws Within Us; Friendly Reminders of Inclusion to Forgive the Dreamer of Separation” which is available here.

Hands-on sacred geometry workshop July 28, 2012 in Palo Alto, CA

Tuesday, 10 July 2012 by Bruce Rawles

I’m giving a day-long, hands-on* sacred geometry workshop on Saturday, July 28, 2012, from 10AM-4PM, at Integrated Healing Arts, 4153 El Camino Way, Palo Alto, CA (NOTE NEW VENUE!), sponsored by the Foundation for Mind-Being Research (FMBR). The workshop follows an introductory talk for FMBR the previous (Friday) evening Unity Community Church, in the Y.E.S. room, 3391 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, CA at 7:00 PM.) Cost is on a sliding scale from $25-$75 based on need. Pre-registration is required. There is always plenty of opportunity for individual Q&A, and exploring favorite geometries (and their metaphysical foundations) in an informal atmosphere. Please contact Bruce via GeometryCode.com to register. I’m always happy to phone or Skype with even more details. Please bring a geometer’s compass, straight-edge, scissors and cellophane tape; I will supply 2D and 3D handouts including platonic solid fold-up patterns, plus LOTS of visual multimedia imagery, animation and more, along with plenty of theory on the mystical underpinnings of sacred geometry! :-) To familiarize yourself with related material on the subject, you might want to explore titles in this collection: the GeometryCode Amazon aStore. Here is a full resolution printable flyer for the event.

California sacred geometry workshop 28Jul2012 Flyer 150dpi

Question from a form submission:

Q. I am a bit curious about geometry and was wondering if the workshop would be an appropriate place to learn more.
A. Definitely! I’ll be doing (and teaching) lots of hands-on demos of the classic Geometric constructions with compass and straightedge that folks like DaVinci, Plato, Pythagoras and more would likely have done, as well as LOTS of multimedia (books, animations, videos, stereograms, and more) demonstrating geometric principles that rarely (if ever) get covered in ordinary school curricula, blended with the mystical symbolism that the masters of both contemporary and ancient times revered and pondered. I have a flyer here that gives more examples and details, but feel free to ask me to cover specific topics since with a small group it’s easy to tailor it to the needs of those attending. Thanks for asking! :-) Please let me know ASAP if you’re interested and want to pre-register; also if you’d like an online class, let me know that too! :-)

Hands-on sacred geometry workshop summer, 2012 in Castle Rock, CO

Sunday, 6 May 2012 by Bruce Rawles

I’m giving a day-long, hands-on* sacred geometry workshop from 10AM-5PM this Summer 2012 (date TBA; rescheduled from May 20), here at our home in Castle Rock, Colorado. We’re about 30-60 minutes south of Denver, depending on what part of the metropolitan area you might be driving from. Cost is on a sliding scale from $25-$75 based on need. Please pre-register (required) due to limited space around our dining room table! :-) Since I limit the enrollment to a small handful, there is plenty of opportunity for individual Q&A, and exploring favorite geometries (and their metaphysical foundations) in an informal atmosphere. I always have days worth of material to cover if there’s interest, so no worries about that, either! :-) Please contact Bruce via GeometryCode.com to register. I’ll be happy to phone or Skype with even more details. Please bring a geometer’s compass, straight-edge, scissors and cellophane tape; I will supply lots of 2D and 3D handouts including platonic solid fold-up patterns, plus LOTS of visual multimedia imagery, animation and more, along with plenty of theory on the mystical underpinnings of sacred geometry! :-) I typically bring most of my extensive library on the subject out for everyone to peruse; you can see most of them (except some of the rare and obscure titles) on the GeometryCode Amazon aStore. Here is a full resolution printable flyer for the event.

Please let me know ASAP if you’re interested, and which weekend dates work for you; also if you’d like an online class, let me know that too! :-)

Froebel Conference Presentation in San Francisco, Aug. 4-5, 2012

Saturday, 5 May 2012 by Bruce Rawles

froebel gift play
I will be a Presenter at the 2012 Froebel USA Conference, giving a Keynote (multimedia) presentation on The Geometry of Interconnectedness and Inclusion; here is a link to register. My presentation will be a 1-hour audiovisual talk among other presentations that weekend (schedule TBA) held at the South San Francisco Conference Center, SF, Calif. (map). I’m very much looking forward to this event (thanks to Scott Bultman for the invitation!) and will include some new imagery and insights not given publicly before in prior presentations.
sf-skyline
Synchronistically, I was just talking with some neighbors yesterday about the Great Pyramid (at Giza, Egypt) and it reminded me of a speech I gave in a Rhetoric class at UC Davis (Calif.) where I referred to the Transamerica Pyramid, shown in the center of the skyline in the photo above. This latter pyramid is taller, but is dwarfed by the acreage and bulk of it’s Egyptian inspiration.

Zometool sculpture at Denver Art Museum

We finally made it back to the Denver Art Museum (which easily deserves a couple of days to see the neat collection there) and made a bee-line for the newly installed Zometool creation in the downstairs lobby next to the gift store.
I wrote most recently about this geometric sculpture in this earlier blog post. It was fun to see this splendid geometric model in person! :-) The photos above show the sculpture face on (upper photo), and edge-on (lower photo).
Zometool is a great complement to, and ideal model building system for the designs in Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook.

Cymaglyphs

Jeff Volk – Cymatics and water presentation

Jeff Volk of CymaticSource – carrying on the pioneering Cymatics work of Hans Jenny – will give a live presentation on Cymatics and water at The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts on Earth Day, Sunday, April 22, 2012.

Fellow geometer and engineer Adam Reed has worked with several others to develop an amazing instrument, the Cymaglyph which produces stunningly beautiful Cymatic imagery (both still and video) which the photos above represent.

Chrome

“Chrome Zome” jewelry still available!

Zometool Jewelry — featuring elegant chrome-plated Zome hubs — is STILL available … and ONLY here. Nancy (our resident jeweler) can make these earrings with the bottom (Swarovski 6mm) crystal in a variety of colors in addition to the pink (rose) and jet black varieties shown here, including clear, aqua, blue, light blue, midnight blue, teal, green, purple, amethyst purple, and other colors and variations. Each earring features the unique Zometool hub (12 pentagonal holes, 20 triangular holes and 30 golden rectangle holes) with a metallic chrome finish. Chains and earring hooks will vary with styles. … (read more…)

2) Websites, Books, Videos, Imagery, Music and Quotes

Patterns in Nature is a lovely 8-minute audio-visual reverie in nature close-up photography; you’ll spot the abundant geometric metaphors and fractals, probably without having to look for them. (Produced and photographed by Trevor Barrett Music by Rob Whitesides-Woo, Music produced by Jim Moeller and Rob Whitesides-Woo)

Doug Craft’s Convergence of Photography, Collage and Music has a bit of retro eclectic art with a bit of golden proportions and fractals.

Adrian Rossiter has an updated version of his Antiprism Polyhedron Modelling Software which enables one to create, transform, analyze, and visualize polyhedra. Here are a few neat geometric models he’s made with his software.

Our original Sacred Geometry Tutorial page has a new Haitian Creole translation by Web Geek Science. If you know of other translations, or someone who would like to make one, please let me know.
