GeometryCode bulletin for March 2014

Sunday, 30 March 2014 by Bruce Rawles

Cube of One Way Mirrors

a Cube of One Way Mirrors

Reminiscent of Sara Frucht’s Kaliedoscapes which also explore the interplay of light reflected on the interior surfaces of polyhedra, both Platonic and Archimedean – see this recent related post about her reVERB™ Casual Music Game – this article about a cube with flexible walls made of one-way mirrors has a neat video showing what happens when the attached bellows change the geometry from flat planar surfaces. I’d like to see a ‘walk-through’ gallery of Kaleidoscapes that allow visual and acoustical interaction with all the Archimedean and Platonic solids as an interior participant.

New York City Sacred Geometry Fest

We already mentioned this event in the January 2014 bulletin, but there’s still time left (as far as I know) to attend a conference about sacred geometry – and these don’t happen that often – in New York next month. If anyone attends (I would, but have prior commitments) please feel free to send me any interesting links or reports from this fest … and say hi to our colleagues! Here’s a page of links from their site, and an example of one of the many workshops at this event: Leonardo’s Mind: The Geometry of the Renaissance.

Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn. I always enjoy connecting with both recent and long-time friends and colleagues and discovering new friends of friends :-)Thanks for your interest & support! :-) BTW, I always appreciate enthusiastic reviews on the Amazon SGDS book page, and the newer Amazon book page for The Geometry Code. It’s a good “win-win” way to cross-promote your work as well.

If you like to color with colored pencils (or other media), make 3-D fold-up geometric art, do stained glass, quilts, geometric arts and/or crafts, or just want an extensive reference/resource of geometric archetypes, patterns and essential line art, you might enjoy a copy of my first book, Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook: Universal Dimensional Patterns.

If your leanings are more metaphysical … and perhaps whimsical :-) … you might enjoy my second book, The Geometry Code: Universal Symbolic Mirrors of Natural Laws Within Us; Friendly Reminders of Inclusion to Forgive the Dreamer of Separation. It was originally going to have geometry and Hermetic Laws/symbolism as a primary focus, but in 2007, a reawakened interest in the spiritual masterpiece, A Course In Miracles – thanks to Gary Renard – shifted the primary emphasis to an exploration of the two thought fundamental systems we all vacillate between, and how we can gradually shift our mind’s identity to the happy one.

Goldberg Polyhedron

After 400 years, mathematicians find a new class of solid shapes

This article explores Goldberg polyhedra: quasi-spherical polyhedra-like shapes (familiar to those who have explored geodesic domes, fullerenes, etc.) that add to the existing classes of Platonic, Archimedean and Kepler solids (which include rhombic polyhedra).

Metaphysics and sacred geometry interview by David Whitehead

Here is a recent (recorded 30Dec2013) interview of Bruce Rawles by David Whitehead on his Truth Warrior program; we talked about sacred geometry, Hermetic laws, and – of course! – non-dual metaphysics; all topics I enjoy sharing.

Artistic Interpretation of the Science of Cymatics

Geometer colleagues Jeff Volk and Mandara Cromwell, along with dancer Kate Holland will be giving an Artistic Interpretation of the Science of Cymatics Feb. 4 and 5 in San Diego and Santa Monica, California, respectively. Here’s an excerpt from their program notes for the event:

“Throughout all the cultures of the world, as far back as history recalls‒sound, song and sacred movement have played pivotal roles in focusing attention and bringing awareness back to the essential nature of our being. Modern science can now show us precisely how this occurs, right down to the biochemical reactions and our corresponding neurological responses. The mechanisms through which this takes place are the underlying principles of resonance and entrainment. The science of Cymatics brings these principles to life, vividly showing how audible sound can animate inert powders, pastes and liquids, into coherent forms that appear like living, breathing organisms‒shedding light on the mysteries of manifestation and allowing us to see this primordial creative force in action!

In this highly engaging program, world-class presenters weave together the arts‒poetry, music, and sacred dance‒with the science of sound, offering a visceral understanding of how our world is composed and of our seminal role in that dynamic, creative process. This is something that must be experienced to be fully understood, yet once we’ve had this experience, even in a limited way, our way of viewing ourselves‒and our creative potential‒is forever changed.”

Quantum physics proves that death is an illusion

Here’s a neat, short article that employs quantum physics to challenge the dominance of space and time over mind; author Prof. Robert Lanza suggests that “space and time are simply tools of our mind.”

Sri Yantra Illustration

Unexpected holiday gift: Sri Yantra art returns

The other day, I got a cardboard tube in the mail from long-time friend, fellow geometer, networker and entrepreneur, Asha Deliverance, of Pacific Domes. Asha has been a primary – and generous – host of a geometer’s study group in Ashland, Oregon that a handful of us started around 2007 which we whimsically call the “Hedronists.” When I opened the tube, I found a lovely 18″ diameter flexible magnetic Sri Yantra image, the circular center portion of the image above, which I was commissioned by Pacific Domes to make in Adobe Illustrator some years ago for ‘floor art’ for their new manufacturing facility. This classic mandala with it’s precise construction, in addition to considerable historical mystical lore, encodes a golden ratio triangle (1:Phi:Square Root of Phi triangle) within the mesmerizing inter-meshed triangles. There’s also even a massive 13 mile long ‘desert formation’ of this Sri Yantra shape that purportedly appeared in 1990 in eastern Oregon in a dry lake bed.

The other ‘back-story’ of now DOUBLE synchronicity, is that when I first replicated this design for the illustration on page 195 in Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook around 1997, I just happened to be listening to a favorite program, New Dimensions Radio, with hosts Michael & Justine Toms, one evening while replicating the construction using ClarisCAD on the (now-ancient) Mac I had at the time. Michael’s guest, whose name I’ve long forgotten, mentioned that all authentic replicas have a small gap between the inner and outer regions of the design to allow spirit symbolically to enter the design, so I made sure there is a very tiny gap on my version of it that appears on page 195 of Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook.

So while typing this bulletin this afternoon, I ‘just happened’ to be listening to a favorite metaphysical mentor, Kenneth Wapnick, who just left this world a couple days ago, and heard – no kidding! – “Leave an empty space,” (a suggestion to allow for spiritual guidance in our minds) within section 14.08 of his recorded lecture  (in the Q&A section) of “Ideas Leave Not Their Source”. Too wild! :-)

Thanks, Asha, for a thoughtful gift that triggers all sort of interesting interconnections! :-)

  • … a spherical glass solar collector energy technology
  • Dr. Quantum – Double Slit Experiment (a neat animated video about modern physics)
  • I haven’t read it, but this book about “Love & Math” by Edward Frenkel looks interesting
  • … speaking of Math wizardry, it looks like Stephen Wolfram has something big to announce
  • Circles of Healing author Gwen Wendy Hammarstrom shares our mandala interest
  • geometric snow art by Simon Beck
  • Colleague Jonathan Quintin’s sacred geometry site, which I’ve mentioned before, has some nice images of DNA like the one below, showing the 34 to 21 Angstrom proportions of one complete spiral (helical) turn of a DNA molecule (which just happens to involve 2 Fibonacci numbers); not only does the Fibonacci Ratio engage DNA in the realm of sacred geometry, but the cross-section is a decagon (think of rotating two pentagons 180 degrees), and many of the chemical compounds attached to the helix are also pentagonal in geometry, so every cell of what we consider to be life biologically has this principle of interconnection metaphorically encoded within it.

The image above is a colorized version of one of the exquisite images in John Martineau’s “Little Book of Coincidence”, depicting the ‘dance’ of the orbit of Venus in relation to the orbit of our earth. The pentagonal relationship also is reflected in the lower left image (of the 12 below) showing the perigee/apogee relationship with Earth and Venus. More goodies for sacred geometry enthusiasts…

If you like to color with colored pencils (or other media), make 3-D fold-up geometric art, do stained glass, quilts, geometric arts and/or crafts, or just want an extensive reference/resource of geometric archetypes, patterns and essential line art, you (or a family member or friend) might enjoy a copy of my first book, Sacred Geometry Design Sourcebook: Universal Dimensional Patterns. I keep finding the images from this book on cool Pinterest pages such as this one, and elsewhere, so I know they are finding lots of uses by lots of people with a wide variety of uses since I finished the book in 1997 and published it a year or so later.

If you (or a family member or friend) enjoys tinkering with geometric modeling systems, don’t overlook ZomeTool in your holiday (or any time of year) gift plans. I’m just a big kid when it comes to these superb, precision-crafted parts that can make a staggering number of geometric 3-D models. Besides, after the recent floods that swept through their factory in Longmont, Colorado, I’m sure they could use a little boost to help their business recover. Here are some of the prior posts and references I’ve made to ZomeTool within the archives of GeometryCode.com … and other affiliates and geometric toys/tools/gizmos.
